Let's Answer Your Questions About Ramazzotti Amaro

Where is Ramazzotti Amaro from?

Hailing from Milan, Italy, Ramazzotti Amaro is a true classic, its origins stretching back to 1815 when Ausano Ramazzotti, a young herbalist, first crafted its secret blend of 33 spices, herbs, flowers, and fruits. This makes Ramazzotti the oldest genuine house of Amaro. The brand is renowned for this original recipe, which has remained unchanged for over two centuries and is said to be known by only three people. Notably, in 1848, Ausano opened a bar near Milan's iconic La Scala opera house, popularizing his Amaro as an alternative to coffee and cementing its place in Milanese social life. Ramazzotti quickly became Italy's favorite bitter liqueur and the first non-wine-based Italian liqueur. The family rebuilt the distillery after its destruction in World War II, a testament to their determination, and by 1959, the distinctive red and blue label was recognized internationally.

How should I use Ramazzotti Amaro?

Ramazzotti Amaro offers a balanced bittersweetness with notes of orange, gentian, and a complex herbal spice. It's quite friendly for an amaro, bringing a pleasant, rich depth rather than an aggressive bitterness. This makes it versatile in cocktails; try it in a Black Manhattan, an Amaro Spritz, or even to add character to a simple soda or tonic.

What does Ramazzotti Amaro taste like?

Ramazzotti Amaro greets you with enticing aromas of sweet orange peel, vanilla, and a hint of anise. On the palate, it’s a smooth, full-bodied interplay of sweetness and gentle bitterness, revealing notes of cinnamon, licorice, and subtle citrus. The finish is long and pleasantly spicy, with lingering orange and herbal notes.
