Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength Gin in a Nutshell
Westbourne Strength was created as a direct response to requests by bartenders for a version of Martin Miller's Original Gin that would give more 'old school' authenticity to their classic cocktail repertoire. Pot-distilled in England across separate botanical batches, one for spices and earthy roots and one for citrus peels. The two are blended together before a cucumber distillation is folded in, then brought to proof with Icelandic water, landing at 45.2% ABV. The Beverage Tasting Institute awarded it 97 points and declared it the best gin in the world and 'Spirit of the Year' in 2003.
Anders' Take on Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength Gin
"Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength is full-flavored with a smooth finish that provides a backbone to cocktails without overpowering the botanicals."
Let's Answer Your Questions About Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength Gin
Where is Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength Gin from?
Martin Miller's has a good story behind it. Back in the late 1990s, Martin and two friends found themselves underwhelmed by the state of gin in the UK, and that frustration quietly lit a fuse. The product is distilled in small batches in Langley Distillery in England.
How should I use Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength Gin?
The gin clocks in at 45.2% ABV — born from bartender demand for a version of Martin Miller's that would bring old-school authenticity to classic cocktails. That extra proof isn't just muscle; higher ABV amplifies botanical intensity and enhances structure — ideal for gin-forward drinks. Martinis and Negronis are where it absolutely earns its keep, blending into a cocktail while still making its presence known, with cucumber, nutmeg, citrus, and juniper all showing up to work.
What does Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength Gin taste like?
It opens with an aromatic intensity that commands attention. The nose greets you with bright citrus peels and earthy juniper aromas, accented by a herbaceous, bubbly quality, jasmine, and a sharp citrus zest that sets the tone for what's ahead. On the palate, dominant orange and lime peel take the lead, followed by herbaceous cucumber, warmed by peppery nutmeg and coriander spice, while a subtle sweetness from liquorice brings the citrus notes further forward.
