Amaro di Angostura Liqueur in a Nutshell
Amaro di Angostura is a fascinating craft spirit, essentially the iconic Angostura aromatic bitters you know, deconstructed and remade into a sippable, 35% ABV liqueur. It’s made in Trinidad and Tobago by combining those famous bitters with a neutral spirit and additional spices, then allowing the mixture to marry for three months. This process results in a rich, complex amaro with notes of cinnamon, dark chocolate, and licorice, offering a unique Caribbean take on a classic European-style liqueur and a versatile cocktail ingredient for your home bar.

Anders' Take on Amaro di Angostura Liqueur

Where is Amaro di Angostura Liqueur from?
Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Amaro di Angostura is a relatively recent innovation from the historic House of Angostura, a brand globally recognized for its iconic aromatic bitters since 1824. The House of Angostura, also a respected rum producer, leveraged its generations of blending expertise to create this spirit, which quickly gained acclaim, even being named "Liqueur of the Year" at the 2021 Bartender Spirits Awards.

Amaro di Angostura offers a captivating blend of cinnamon, dark chocolate, and the signature Angostura Aromatic Bitters spices, creating a deeply complex, bittersweet character. It truly shines in cocktails that benefit from its rich, warming spice notes, think an Amaro Flip or a more nuanced Black Manhattan, effortlessly adding depth to your home bar creations.
What does Amaro di Angostura Liqueur taste like?
Amaro di Angostura offers an aromatic spiced bouquet with cinnamon, dark chocolate, and caramel on the nose. The palate is greeted with cinnamon and toasted caramel, followed by pleasant notes of licorice, citrus, and a developing bitterness. It finishes with lasting flavors of chocolate, sweet herbs, and a lingering spiciness.
