The Prescription Julep

I’ve always loved the Prescription Julep. It has that classic minty chill, but splitting the base with Cognac and a spicy Rye whiskey gives it a complexity the original can’t quite match. This is what a Julep wants to be when it grows up.

Recipe Ingredients

1.5 oz. (45 ml) Maison Rouge V.S.O.P. Cognac Add to Cart
1/2 oz. (15 ml) Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whisky Bottled in Bond Add to Cart
1/2 oz. (15 ml) rich Demerara Syrup (2:1 sugar:water)
6-8 mint leaves
Large mint sprig for garnish

Recipe Directions

1. Into your Julep cup, add the mint leaves and rich Demerara syrup.
2. Muddle gently to express the mint oils.
3. Pour in the Cognac and Rye whiskey.
4. Pack the cup full with crushed ice.
5. Stir or swizzle until the cup is well-chilled and frosted.
6. Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a slapped mint sprig.
