The Lonely Penguin

This is my playful, tiki-style rye sour that always makes me smile. The spicy Rittenhouse cuts perfectly through the rich coconut and dark fruit from the crème de mûre. It’s proof that a serious home bar can still have a lot of fun.

Recipe Ingredients

1.5 oz. Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whisky Bottled in Bond Add to Cart
1/2 oz. Combier Crème de Mûre Blackberry Liqueur Add to Cart
3/4 oz. cream of coconut*
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz. semi-rich simple syrup (1.5:1 sugar:water)
2 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters Add to Cart
2 cocktail cherries (eyes), orange wedge (beak), 2 pineapple fronds (flippers), & cocktail umbrella for garnish (arranged to look like a penguin)

Recipe Directions

1. Chill your serving glass.
2. Combine the rye, crème de mûre, cream of coconut, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters in a shaker.
3. Add ice.
4. Shake well until thoroughly chilled.
5. Double strain into your chilled glass.
6. Garnish with the two cocktail cherries for eyes, the orange wedge for a beak, the two pineapple fronds for flippers, and the cocktail umbrella, arranged to resemble a penguin.
