Strawberry Basil Smash

I absolutely love this smash. The secret is using a Jamaican rum; its natural funk creates a perfect counterpoint to the sweet strawberry and herbal basil. It’s a bright, layered, and ridiculously refreshing cocktail that shows how simple can be seriously delicious.

Recipe Ingredients

2 oz. (60 ml) Appleton Estate Signature Jamaican Rum Add to Cart
1/2 oz. (15 ml) rich Demerara syrup (2:1 sugar:water)
4 lemon slices cut in 1/2 (remove seeds)
2 strawberries
8-10 basil leaves
Strawberry slices & basil sprig for garnish

Recipe Directions

1. In a shaker, combine lemon slices, strawberries, basil leaves, and Demerara syrup. Muddle gently to express juices and oils.
2. Add rum.
3. Fill the shaker with ice and shake thoroughly until well-chilled.
4. Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice.
5. Garnish with strawberry slices and a basil sprig.
